To truly appreciate the wonders of Alderwood in Colchester, Essex, a visit is highly recommended. As Carebase’s most recent residential, nursing and dementia care home to open its doors, Alderwood has all of the state-of-the-art facilities you would expect and more.
Stylish en-suite bedroom are intelligently designed with nurse call systems and wet room facility. There’s even the option of selecting a bedroom with private garden, patio and seating area. And it doesn’t stop there - the rest of the home offers wonderful spaces, all tastefully decorated.
The grounds itself houses a large garden with putting green, allotments, raised flower beds, all designed for wheelchair user access. The home enjoys the best of both worlds – it looks out on to woodlands and has all the charm Colchester has to offer on its doorstep.
There are bar and brasserie areas which are perfect for residents to socialise in. While families are also encouraged to spend as much time as they wish at the home. In fact, there is a beautifully designed private dining room where residents can entertain intimate family gatherings. We also invite families to the endless events we host.

Life at Alderwood
Purpose built last year means the residential care home has well thought-out spaces catering to all needs. The well-stocked library and lounge areas are perfect for residents wanting some quiet time. While, the onsite cinema is popular for enjoying old movies.
The inclusion of a hairdressing salon, and external therapists offering treatments from massage to chiropody, means that residents can have access to facilities they enjoyed living at home, and more.
Alderwood promotes an active lifestyle, with weekly planned activities programme that is second to none. Residents can enjoy a full and varied day if they so wish. There are exercise classes, gardening club, bakery club, reminiscence quizzes, performances from local entertainers, talks on topical subjects where residents have expressed an interest. There is even a writing club where residents write short stories or review short passages.
Those that prefer one-to-one time are not forgotten either. Our team will always find time to chat to residents about current affairs or whatever takes their fancy.
Alderwood has a private mini bus, which transports residents to an array of wonderful places, whether it’s visiting a museum or simply a pub lunch. We have already forged close links with the community and have arranged for the local priest to carry out a monthly service at the home.

Matthew Cox, Home Manager
Matthew has worked as a home manager and mental health nurse for many years. His approach to person centred and specialist dementia care services means he leads from his heart and always puts residents first. New to Alderwood he is passionate about continuing to deliver excellent care at the home.

Carole worked supporting teenagers in the care of social services before joining the team at Alderwood. Carole has created a varied and exciting activites calendar at Alderwood, and also works hard to maintain links with the local community.
